Episode 59 of the Living Life Well Show: Done with the Input Detox, What's Next?
===
Speaker 2: [00:00:00] Welcome to the Living Life. Well show the intersection of God's word, today's science and healthy living with common sense application, all based on the truth of the word of God. I'm your host, Dr. Jon Skelton. Now let's get straight to the truth.
Audio Only - All Participants: Welcome to the Living Life Well Show today. I'm excited to come back to you and piggyback on a topic that we talked about almost a month ago now. That input detox. For those of you who haven't heard that episode, I really encourage you to go back and, and listen to that episode to really get a baseline of what we're talking about today.
And so for today, today is going to be a little bit different. For those of you that may have. Actually taken me up on [00:01:00] that and applied this input detox. I would love to hear from you. Please email us or, or comment on us if you're, if you're watching this on YouTube or listening to us on Spotify or iTunes leave us a review.
Leave us a comment. Let us know how it went and how you are or aren't enjoying the show, whatever the case may be. We would really, really love your feedback so that a, we can improve the show, but also get it out to more people. So today what I'm talking about is really. What do we do after we've removed all these things?
We've determined what we need to keep in, what we need to take out, what is serving us best, and what maybe is hurting us of the things that we already had in our life Now. This is what to put in place of, that you, [00:02:00] what to put in place of what you've taken out, maybe of your daily routine, what to put in place of what you've removed from your general activities, what you've removed from relationships, potentially even.
And of course food really what to, what to do there. So that's really what I want to talk about today and we really bla base this on Philippians 4:8 really looking at whatever is good or praiseworthy thinking about these things. And so. That's what I really want you to do as you go through this process.
Really listen for guidance and understanding about what is good in your life, what you need to have in your life. Well, what I will tell you is the vast majority of what we all need is margin. Margin in our day, margin in our time, margin in what we do and [00:03:00] don't eat margin in our relationships. And we really need gratitude.
And these are going to be the things that you want to create more of. In your life. So let, let's jump right in. And so the first topic I want to talk about is time. So now you may have gotten yourself on a, a social media routine. You may have gotten yourself on an email routine, but now you've got this extra time.
Well, how do you fill it? Do you fill it with other things that are potentially. Not bad, but just distractions. So how do you go about now using this newfound time? Well, for some of you it may mean I. Nothing. Meaning if it is time that you freed up, you may not need to put anything in this place.
[00:04:00] We all need time to ourselves. We all need quiet time, meaning a Sabbath,. An entire day that now you could potentially dedicate to really rest and rejuvenation really rejuvenating your body, rejuvenating your mind rejuvenating your relationships. Maybe it's just on a daily basis, you're now able to.
Implement a quiet time or increase that quiet time and make it more beneficial to you. Maybe it's just a shifting of your schedule to take the greatest advantage of the newfound time. Maybe you shift your schedule in such a way that now you're able to have more time in the morning or the evening, whatever time is right.
For you to help set yourself up for success for that day or the following day, or for whatever the situation may be that works best in your [00:05:00] life. So really looking at at time, the first thing that you may need to do is literally just. Not add anything in, just really focus on what you've already had in your life and enhance those things that you found are most positive.
So that's number one. Number two, with regards to time. Is service. So serving is what ignites meaning and purpose, not only for you, but for others. And so one of the ways that you can serve is kind of what we talked about just above. With a quiet time getting into God's word, really looking at what he is telling you.
Having time now to really hear. Understand and get that knowledge that is imparted through that time spent in his word. And then maybe it's enhancing or spending more time on the ways you [00:06:00] already serve whether that's serving your immediate circle, your. Family members or whether that's branching out into new areas.
Service is a way that we really unlock not only, again, purpose in our lives, but purpose for others, and that is really what we're here to do. Okay, so. Now moving on to relationships. Okay. So now that you have identified what relationships are most healing to you, most beneficial to you, and maybe even what relationships are most detrimental.
I. What things do you need to put in? You want to enhance your closest relationships first, so any margin that you've created, you really wanna look at these relationships, obviously with spouse, with children maybe simply spending more time and service to them. Maybe it is. Educating yourself from a [00:07:00] biblical perspective on how to serve better.
Maybe it's reading more. Maybe it's listening to a certain podcast or sermons about how you can be a better steward of the relationships that God has granted you in that closest of relationships. And then maybe. It's being vulnerable, really sharing with others your failures and your wins.
You know, a lot of us, especially men, we are much more likely to share our wins and accomplishments with others, but. Pretty rarely want to share where we fail. Sometimes the most growth happens in failure and when we're, we are willing to admit our mistakes, that is where I. Real growth happens not only for us, but also for others.
And [00:08:00] that will really help to enhance your relationships, deepen your relationships, whether that's with your spouse, with your kids, with your friends, with your extended family with coworkers. That is, is what's gonna happen. And then in your relationships when you do this, you help to increase your influence, whether it's in your kids' lives, whether it's in the life of your spouse, whether it's in your daily work or whether it's out in the world.
I. And so that is going to be really important and something that you want to look to do with this newfound freedom of time and, and energy that you have that's now available to you to be able to look at things in a different way. And then really kind of coming down, we want to talk about food.
So food, this is pretty simple, right? And so we wanna replace packages with [00:09:00] living things once living anyways, so. Eat more plants and more quality animal protein. So when we are talking about this, what we're talking about is doing fresh or frozen veggies straight out of the ground or, or in the case of animal products, straight out of the butcher shop.
Not pre breaded, not preseason, not pretreated, not precooked. These are the things that we really wanna look at. We wanna replace those packages with the living things. One of the other big things that we want to replace is how we prepare these foods. We wanna make sure that we're really using good quality products when we cook.
So. Replacing plastic with glass replacing non-stick with cast iron, replacing seed oils with olive oil. These are going to be things that are really helping [00:10:00] to renew us and improve us and allow us to get the most benefit that we've gotten out of this detox that we've just done. And so.
In the same category. You want to increase your knowledge. You want to look at and pay attention to people that are suggesting cooking in this way to even making recipes in this way. So I. Funny story. Recently I was just kind of testing out chat, GPT and I wanted to make a Whole Foods primarily plant-based meal that would be Mediterranean in nature.
Literally what I did was I said that exact thing to chat GPT, and it spit out a whole recipe for me to my surprise. It was actually a very good meal. It was actually very [00:11:00] good with regards to the ingredients it recommended, and so. That can be a tool for you that is free and easy to use if you're stuck as to what to cook, how to cook those types of things.
You can go in there and do simply what I did when I was in a block as to what to cook, . Now the next thing is a little bit interesting because, you know, here in the US especially most of us are inside most of the time.
Most of us don't experience God's creation or we experience it in such a way that there's a whole lot of extra noise going on, going on noise from traffic. Noise from construction, noise from whatever the case may be. I want you to combine as much of these things that we've just put in place with being outside.
You could [00:12:00] do your quiet time outside. You can serve people or meet with people outside, working outside, moving outside, doing your workouts out there, just going for a walk in nature, doing some yard work. These things are all going to be beneficial to you. In addition, it helps to help correct that circadian rhythm disruption that many of us have because we live our lives inside and don't really get that bright light, that sunlight into our eyes and the way in which God intended for it to be for us. So. Combining that eating, outside doing preparing meals outside on the grill, even if you will whatever the case may be.
Enjoying God's creation, spending time with your family members, your pets outside is going to help decrease stress levels, help reset the circadian [00:13:00] rhythms and allow you. To feel better to live life freer, fuller, and more joyful. And so that's really what I wanted to, to come to you today and, and discuss.
I hope this has been beneficial. If you haven't listened to that, that. Previous podcast, the Input Detox podcast I would really challenge you to go in, start doing that input detox now. Really determine when the best timeframe is for you to do that detox. Remember we talked about the times of extreme busyness that we all have those seasons and they can vary from person to person, to industry, to industry, but really looking at those times and then.
Making the most of doing a detox either before or after, or even during. If you're brave enough then that will allow you to continue [00:14:00] and cement those things that are best for you when you get in those busy times and allow you to have the most success and come out of them feeling the best. So, thanks and God bless.
