Yeti Nano & FaceTime HD Camera-4: Hi everyone. And welcome to this episode of the living life. Well show. So today, what I would like to talk about is how to win the war with food. not, just for the holidays, but for every day, And so what I would like you to do is I'd like you to go back and listen to the last episode about stress and, and the holidays and how to combat that. first I want to inform you that the best way. [00:01:00] To win. Whether it be stress, whether it be your war with food, whether it be. Anything is to have a plan because having no plan is a plan for failure. We need. To recognize that temptations are going to occur each and every day. No matter where we are, what we're doing, , there's going to be something that's put in our path that is going to be a temptation for us typically.
, and those temptations can cause some stress, be it physical stress. Be it. Emotional stress or environmental stress sometimes stresses thrust upon us just by the situations that we're in. And that's very typical. During the holiday season. And so what I would like to do in this episode, I'd really like to discuss. A. Strategy to help you succeed in every single day of your life, as it relates to food. So food is necessary.
Food is [00:02:00] always going to be there. It's a lot more abundant. , during the holiday seasons, then at any other time, it seems. So when we are in those times where there's less structure, there's less. , normalcy going on, if you will. We're more likely to get off of our path. Invite those stresses into our life. Be it intentional or unintentional. In general, just recognizing that temptations are coming and they're going to derail you, not just during the holiday season, but all the time is going to be important too. Allow you to be successful and to really manage stress one of the things I like to tell all my clients
is this little quote I have for how to think about eating. "Eat the garden, then the pasture and the sea. Skip the fields of grain". Well, this is designed to help you [00:03:00] create. A pattern of eating that is also related to quantity. And order of eating. So as we eat, we want to start with those fruits and vegetables first. Then move to the proteins. Then at the end, that's when we get those breads, grain related things, if you will, even corn.
And so, , chips and salsa, not at the first of the meal at the end of the meal, the bread basket, not at the first of the meal, the end of the meal. And if you are able to follow that pattern, you're less likely to get those inflammatory things. Into your body. Because you're going to be eating less of them.
You're already going to have the tank almost full, so to speak. It will be full of what is most beneficial, then moving towards what's least beneficial. So. Number one, you want to eat the [00:04:00] garden? Then the pasture and the sea and minimize or skip those fields of grain. Okay. We'll come back to the minimize versus skipping in a minute. But some next practical strategies that you can use is getting the menu.
So if you know that you're going out to eat or going to. , some sort of holiday party or gathering. , if you can get the menu that helps you out ahead of time, that helps you be able to, , plan. Is there anything in the garden available? Is it all proteins or is it all grains? What is it? That's on the menu.
So getting that menu ahead of time is going to be very beneficial. And this really works even when you're going out to eat. Whether it's a fast food restaurant, whether it's a sit-down restaurant. Taking this strategy with you to get the menu ahead of time to really see what's available so that you can make the best choice [00:05:00] in that time. You know, most of us. Go straight to the appetizers or entrees on the menu. The sides are usually down here at the bottom somewhere and kind of got to look for them, or definitely not in a prominent place on the menu. So, what I recommend doing is if you aren't able to look up the menu online prior to going, if you're in a situation to where you are thrust into the situation. Pause, take a minute. Scan see what all is available and then make that strategic decision to fill up with those things that are from the garden.
Then. Add in those proteins, then look at the, the grains because if you eat in that strategy and build your meal that way, You're going to be most successful in getting the best things in for you. [00:06:00] As opposed to opening up the menu and going in the order that the restaurant wants you to go into or the way it's been laid out at a buffet or a person's home. , really just taking that minute to pause and really look at the menu is going to help you to be successful. So say you can't get the menu or, you know, that there's nothing on the menu that is going to be, , really beneficial to you. Well, see if you can bring something,
So if it's a dinner party, if it's a holiday gathering, this is typically pretty acceptable. , not always, , but can be. And so if you can bring something to the meal, do that, I have clients that bring their own salad, dressing and condiments. To the restaurant. This is appropriate bringing in, in full meal restaurant.
No, not going to happen. But bringing in something that can be added to, to help make the [00:07:00] meal more successful for you is going to be a benefit. And so. Bring something that you know is going to be safe and is going to be beneficial. The next strategy would be pre eating. So if you can't get that menu, you don't know what's available to you pre eat pre eat.
What you know is healthy. Get those veggies in at least if nothing else prior to you going to your, , event or restaurant, that way you'll ensure that you've started out with a good base and can then build on it from there with the same strategies of looking. Looking at what is going to be best and looking at what proteins would be next, then branching out to, , the grains and breads and those things.
And so that will be really, , beneficial to you. , and then another strategy is fasting. So we're not going to talk a lot about [00:08:00] fasting on this episode. I think Dr. Jason Fung does a great job of this. And so I'd encourage you to, to look him up and he's got some great information, but. Fasting in general is going to help. Clear and detoxify the body.
And so you can do that going into a time in which you know that you're going to have, temptation. , for foods that aren't going to be good for you. And you can employ it afterwards as well. Now, listening, fasting. Isn't necessarily gonna work in every single situation. But again, you can employ it prior to, and after, , as a strategy to, to help you rejuvenate clear your body, detoxify your body. , from what you have participated in. , and then grace, grace is so very important grace to yourself. If you do kind of, , go off the wagon, so to speak. , and [00:09:00] grace to the ones that are preparing the meal. , for you so that even if there isn't those options that are best for you. , you do your best with what's available to you and the fact that they prepared it and made it for you, giving grace and being grateful for that. Is going to be a benefit to you, even if it's not the most healthy. And then finally. Don't forget to feast.
And when I talk about feasting, I'm not just talking about food. Really. What I'm talking about is feasting on this time, feasting on the experience, feasting on the conversation, the relationships, the friendships, the time together, that's going to be very important. And then feasting on food is very important as well. From a biblical perspective and still to this day. , in the Jewish tradition, there are [00:10:00] multiple feasts throughout the year to celebrate God's goodness to us.
So, if you're able to employ these strategies, I know that you will have increased energy, less weight gain and more enjoyment. Out of this time together, but remember. Make a plan. And employ the strategies we talked about for you to be successful during this holiday season and really anytime of the year. I hope you found this and informative and enjoyable, and we'll talk more soon.
